Pestalozzi advises Royal Bank of Scotland on the EUR 63 billion public takeover of ABN AMRO

01.05.2007

The takeover of ABN Amro by Royal Bank of Scotland was the biggest and most complex banking transaction and the first cross-border takeover of a European bank. The Royal Bank of Scotland Consortium (led by Royal Bank of Scotland and including Fortis Bank and Banco Santander) was competing against Barclays Bank in the bidding. The cash rich offer by the RBS Consortium ultimately won against the equity-heavy offer from Barclays and ABN Amro was taken over for the price of EUR 63 billion. Pestalozzi acted as Swiss counsel to Royal Bank of Scotland.
