Tanja Planinic's practice includes all aspects of domestic and international commercial litigation, arbitration and mediation. She has acted as counsel and arbitrator in numerous ad hoc and institutional arbitrations under various procedural and substantive laws. She has particular experience with disputes relating to the international sale of goods, commodity sales and trading, joint ventures and distributorships as well as disputes in the energy, construction and pharma sectors.
Tanja Planinic is a partner at Pestalozzi in Zurich. She has over 15 years of experience in international commercial arbitration and has acted as counsel and arbitrator in numerous international arbitration proceedings under various rules, including the ICC, LCIA, VIAC, UNCITRAL and Swiss Rules.
Tanja is a dual Swiss and Montenegrin national practising across a wide range of jurisdictions, with a focus on the CEE region, in matters related to a variety of industries, including international sales, oil and gas, energy, mining and natural resources, telecommunications, construction and pharma. She also represents clients in arbitration-related matters before the Swiss courts (eg, attachment proceedings, enforcement and challenge of arbitral awards).
Prior to joining Pestalozzi, Tanja served as a law clerk at the Supreme Court of the Canton of Berne (Civil Chambers and Commercial Court) and was a staff attorney at the Claims Resolution Tribunal for Dormant Accounts in Zurich (Holocaust Victim Assets litigation). She also worked as a senior associate in the international arbitration practice group of a major law firm in London.
Since July 2017, Tanja is a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris, representing Montenegro, and a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR.
Tanja holds a law degree from the University of Lausanne and an LLM (FCO, British Chevening scholar) from the University of Cambridge. She is admitted to the Swiss bar. She speaks French, German, English, Bosnian-Croatian-Montenegrin-Serbian and Italian, and has a passive knowledge of Russian.
